Dennis Enarson is always a threat on the dirt
course. This weekend Chicago's Soldier Field hosts the second stop of the 2010 Dew Tour, the Nike 6.0 BMX Open. The event will feature over 190
of the world's top professional and amateur BMX athletes competing in the disciplines of vert, park and dirt.
2009 vert champion Jamie Bestwick
will look to begin a march towards his 6th consecutive Dew Cup Championship title. The 39-year-old UK native has been a dominant force in vert, known for his high amplitude and critical spins like the 900. Bestwick will be challenged by veterans Chad Kagy and Kevin Robinson.
The BMX dirt competition, in which riders execute spins and inverted maneuvers along a course of
molded clay jumps has the deepest field including defending Dew Cup champion Ryan Nyquist and top contenders Dennis Enarson, TJ Ellis and Luke Parslow.
Perhaps the most visually exciting discipline is park, which integrates multiple ramps, jumps and transition features that riders navigate during a 60 second timed run. Judged on creativity, difficulty and consistency, riders must have a well rounded approach. "If you can
t mix up your run using every feature of the course, it
s gonna be tough to win.,
says three time Dew Cup Champion Daniel Dhers.
Unique to this event is an Open Qualifier round for each discipline, allowing rookies a chance at a $5000 prize and a spot on the tour
s remaining stops. For veterans the Open Qualifiers are welcome.
The first BMX stop is always exciting because of Open Qualifiers,
says pro Mike Spinner.
It
s awesome that
Dew Tour supports up and coming riders with the Ball Park Rookie of the Year award.
The Nike 6.0 BMX Open will be broadcast LIVE on NBC on Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25 from 4:00pm-6:00pm ET.
