Most of the snowboarding world is familiar with Bear Mountain. Home of longtime legends like J.P. Walker andDave Downing as well as newcomers Joe Sexton, Nima Jalali and Zak Hale, Bear has the led the charge in support of rider driven terrain park development and California-inspired snowboarding culture.
For 2009 Bear again kicks of the winter season with its trademark event, Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails with a all new course setup and a stacked rider list. Also on display this Saturday will be the world premier of Bear's latest in a long line of resort-produced videos "Parkumentary - 20 Years of Park Development." Interviewing the pros and personalities that have shaped the face of bear, the film chronicles the evolution of the all-mountain park concept through testimonials, lots of classic footy and enough progressive riding to make photogs and magazine editors drool.
If you can make it to Bear this weekend for Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails, do it. At the least be sure to get a copy of "Parkumentary" in your hands, to learn some history and revel in the knowledge that the progression and spirit of snowboarding is still in good hands.

Bear Mountain s Movie Parkumentary Set To Premier Bear Mountain s new movie will premier along with the Stepchild and Thirtytwo team movie This Video Sucks, Saturday, September 19th immediately following the Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails competition. This is Bear Mountain s sixth movie and for 2009 they deliver a unique documentary called Parkumentary.
This film tracks 20 years of terrain park and snowboarding innovation, style, creativity and history at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Beginning with Summit s hand-dug halfpipe in 1989 and the opening of Bear s Outlaw terrain park in 1990 it all started in Big Bear. From the domination of Summit s Westridge and Ego Trip parks of the late 1990 s, and the rise of Bear s All-Mountain Park in 2002, to new one of a kind features coming this season, Big Bear has been leading the way in terrain park development and helping to push the progression of snowboarding for two decades.
It s a solid place in snowboarding history for a couple of resorts located in sunny Southern California.
